Bring your factory RNS510 navigation system up to date with the latest v5382 firmware. This update improves system speed, fixes common freezing issues, and enhances overall stability for North American units.
Digital installs must be burned properly to a CD-R disc. Improper burning is the #1 cause of install failure.
Key Improvements
Faster touchscreen response and menu loading
Fixes freezing and reboot issues
Improved startup and navigation performance
More stable overall system operation
Compatibility
RNS510 units with part number 3C0035684J+
Works with revisions J, K, L, M, N, P, R, S
North America units only
NOT compatible with Touareg units
If your unit is not compatible, this firmware can brick the radio.
Installation Guide (Step-by-Step)
Use a CD-R only (not DVD or CD-RW)
Burn at 4x–10x speed max
Enter SWL mode using STAR + EJECT + GUIDE
Insert disc after red bars appear
Do not turn off vehicle during update
The update process typically takes 40–55 minutes. The system will reboot automatically once complete.
Available Formats
Physical Disc – ready to install, ships from CT
Digital Download – emailed immediately after purchase
Important Notes
Vehicle must remain powered during install
Improper disc burn = most common failure
Firmware will NOT fix hardware issues
Units with bad CD drives or mainboards may still fail
This firmware is not guaranteed to fix a non-working radio. If your unit does not read discs or is stuck rebooting, hardware repair may be required.
If your RNS510 feels laggy or freezes occasionally, this update is exactly what it needs. It’s the latest official firmware for North America and instantly makes your system feel like new again.

The update was unsuccessful, now the radio is effectively bricked. See pictures.
Worked perfectly. 2014 Passat with constant reboot with split screen. Install took less than 30 minutes. Disc ejected after completion. My model didn't automatically restart. When I turned it on everything worked!. Presets still there. Navigation, SD card, backup cam etc.
Had the issue for a couple of years. Wish I'd known sooner. Was going to buy a used head unit then found this.
Got the digital download to get it faster. Followed the instructions to burn it to a DVD and threw it in the car. Fixed the corrupted startup logo and the boot looping perfectly!
Awesome updates! My radio was stuck in the start up loop causing the backup camera, phone and navigation not to work. I thought I needed a new radio, but found this software update and wanted to give it a try.
Installation took about 40 minutes and when it was done everything works perfectly again.
Thank you so much for this great product. I am absolutely thrilled to see everythingworking and responding so quickly..
The unit was stuck in the endless boot up loop, see pic.
After the f/w upgrade, the boot up problem disappeared. It has not returned since the upgrade over 2 months ago.
The upgrade took about 45 minutes to complete. The instructions provided on the Eurozone tuning website are clear. The upgrade was straight forward and I did not encounter any problems.
I would recommend trying the f/w upgrade if you are experiencing the same problem.
Used to fix common reboot loop in a US version VW Passat RNS 510. Works great for a boot system re-install. Takes patience and ignoring the CD error message that you get when inserting the CD; just hit the OK and wait for the SWL detected message, then answer the questions that you will be prompted with. Photo is of system prior to install to assure correct version.
Worked Flawlessly. I was stuck in a boot loop. Put the disk in. Didn’t know what I was doing. Text Messaged Eurozone and heard back in minutes. Helped me initiate the reboot process. Ran through the reboot and put in the radio code. Boom done. No bull crap. Save your time Scouring VW forums for free software and get the right product for your radio.
I bought a used Passat with a radio that was not functioning properly. It was very slow to start up. The initial startup screen had the center shifted to the right. The backup camera was slow to display an image. I installed the firmware update, took around 50 minutes, everything is working great now.
The item worked great. The instructions on how to use the cd and how to fix the stereo was crap. I have to read other people's reviews on how to use the cd.
2014 VW CC was stuck on start loop. Put the disc in and worked like a champ! For me it was the start/eject/guide buttons to hold down and initiate the upload.
Had a delay with delivery of the physical CD so I asked for the digital download and they responded so quick and even refunded me the difference. Great experience. Also, the software saved my car! Had a stuck error screen on my passat so this update it in about 30minutes
Customer service prior to buying was first class - my questions thru email were answered asap on several occasions - the purchase was easy / on time -100% pleased - Rich
I worked like a charm. The cost of the disk was a lot better than having to replace the radio in this way I was able to keep the factory backup camera phone and everything works like it should before hand. It would do nothing. Thanks so much for having the disk available well worth it.
Our 2014 Passat TDI SEL with the RNS 510 boot looped on the start up screen 90% of the time. Because of that, no back up camera, no music, no navigation and no HVAC display. I purchased the physical disc with the V5382 firmware update. Happy to report problem solved!!! Best money I've spent in a long time! Thank you guys!
Forgot to take pictures of before and after. This update fixed the problem with the screen inside my son's 2015 Passat. He wasn't able to access the screen or the backup camera. Now everything is working properly. Thank you for the update.
It didn’t help my situation at all,and the response I got when I emailed wasn’t much help either. My last email never even received a response. Not impressed to say the least. Greg
It worked great and updated the firmware the way it should have been. One issue I had with my unit is that it had some error stating invalid clamp state. This forced me to factory reset the radio in order for it to read the disk. If anyone gets the issue hold down the buttons to reset it and it should work fine.
I wasn't sure which format to use to burn to a CD so I reached out with questions. I received a very quick response and the software reload fixed my scrambled VW screen.
The firmware update worked like a champ! I was very concerned about whether the disc would even be recognized by the system, as it was constantly trying to reboot. I simply followed the included instructions, and bam, the dang thing worked like a charm. Highly recommend recommended if you have a similar problem.
