Porsche Hits Pause on Full EV—But What Does That Mean for Us?
Hybrid focus is back. Internal combustion still matters. And so does your next build.
In a surprising but honestly refreshing move, Porsche just announced it’s dialing back its all-electric ambitions in favor of something more… balanced. Instead of going full EV on everything, they’re doubling down on hybrid development, especially for high-performance models like the 911 and Cayenne. In other words: internal combustion isn’t dead. Not even close.
Why does this matter? Because for years, the messaging from most European OEMs has been pretty clear: electrify everything. Whether it made sense for enthusiasts or not, the focus was range, charging networks, and EV-only futures. But Porsche is now saying what a lot of us were already thinking — that performance and emotion still matter. And no amount of kilowatt-hours can replace the sound and feel of a proper ICE car when it’s done right.
What Porsche's Pivot Tells Us

First off — this isn’t some doom-and-gloom anti-EV stance. We’re fans of progress. But there’s something reassuring when a brand like Porsche, one of the most iconic names in performance, admits that hybrids and combustion still have a role to play.
This decision also shows that even the biggest names in the game are feeling the pressure from market realities. EV infrastructure still isn’t where it needs to be for wide adoption. And in Porsche’s case, customers still want the thrill of an engine that actually revs and roars — especially in enthusiast circles.
We’re not the only ones craving the analog feel, the vibration through the wheel, the visceral connection that gets lost in digital throttle mapping and regenerative braking.
So Where Does That Leave Enthusiasts?
If you’ve been building, modding, or maintaining your Porsche, VW, Audi, or even BMW project — you're on the right path. ICE cars aren’t being phased out. They’re becoming more special. More collectible. More fun to drive and more worth preserving.
In fact, Porsche’s shift is almost like a green light for the rest of us to keep going. Whether it’s retrofitting your interior with a better wheel, unlocking tone with a proper exhaust, or refreshing your brakes and bushings — these cars still deserve love, and now we know the OEMs agree.

At EZT, we’ve always been ICE-first. Our focus has always been on bringing out the best in these platforms — whether that’s via Porsche console retrofits, Audi MIB upgrades, or our Carbon Edition Steering Wheels. Now more than ever, we’re proud to support owners who want to keep their cars feeling special.
